The Good: Slim fitting, lightweight, expandable storage.
The Bad: Elastic storage pouches allow for a little bit of bounce, unless worn tight.
The Medal Worthy: When I saw how small the belt was, I thought there was no way I’d fit my phone in the pouch…I was way wrong.
The following review is for the: Runtasty Running Belt
We had a lot of bad weather during this test, but were still able to try it out via the following activities:
- Running on a treadmill
- Walking dogs
- Attending an Oregon Ducks game
Design and Quality
If you look at the product page, one of the first things that stood out to me was “waterproof guaranteed.” Seeing as how it has rained nearly every day for the past two weeks, we can definitely attest to that. (Note: this belt is IPX5 rated)
At first glance the Runtasty belt reminds me a lot of the SPIbelt (which is #2 on our top list of running belts).
The major difference is the additional pocket on the Runtasty belt. It’s got a 6″ and 10″ pocket. We only tested it with an iPhone 6s and a set of keys, but you could definitely add a bar, gel, and even small sunblock with no issues.
Just for the heck of it, we stretched the expandable pockets to their max and shoved a Galaxy S7 inside a full wallet case…and it fit…with virtually no problems. I was pretty shocked. The pockets are lined with a type of spandex, which is what allows for the pocket to stretch and “snap back.” I did a little extra research to see if people ever have problems with spandex permanently stretching, but couldn’t find any evidence that it would.
Comfort And Fit
When we first put the pack on, it’s so lightweight you can’t even tell it’s there. We tested the pocket configuration out, and preferred the keys and phone in the larger pocket, and facing the larger pocket towards the front.
Here’s where the only complaint we really had comes in. Because the pockets are “stretchy” (couldn’t think of a better word, sorry), they have a little bounce. We were able to tighten down the elastic waist band and it fixed the bounce, but wasn’t quite as comfortable.
Besides running, we also wore it at a college football game, and after the first ten minutes or so, I completely forgot it was there.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the build quality of the Runtasty belt. I think the expandable pockets are a great idea, especially if you run with any weird shaped objects (for whatever reason that may be).
